Around the United States and Canada, we are celebrating Labor Day. Work and Labor provides meaning and income. However, we have all had jobs or labored at something in frustration, and the work has not been meaningful. The Bible speaks to work and labor, but the meaning and satisfaction emerges not in what we do, but with GOD. In the New Testament, the idea of work, changes to one of service, if one is seeking the blessing from GOD. Work brings much more than just pay. Many struggle with meaning and contentment when they have no work. Some find it refreshing to retire and do nothing, while others get lost with nothing to do. As we celebrate Labor Day, we reflect on the ‘work of our hands.
