Advent and Christmas are some of the busiest times of the year. Advent is a long season of preparing. It is followed by Christmas morning when children open presents in a matter of minutes, which had been carefully wrapped. Christmas lights cover homes with color and fill them with warmth. And although most enjoy the season, there are those who struggle through the season, because of a difficult or sad experience. When I study the gospel stories, the season was not marked with decor and glee, but with difficultly and struggle. I cannot imagine Joseph and Mary’s difficulties and plight. It is surrounded by mystery. Part of the mystery is in how God’s gets Joseph to accept Mary, but what is perhaps even more interesting how God times things. We explore both themes on Sunday.
