On Sunday we celebrate thanksgiving both in worship and afterward with our yearly thanksgiving meal. The giving of thanks has been practiced throughout the ages to shape and form our spiritual life. Thanksgiving has been practiced before facing a crisis and after a crisis. It has been practiced by almost everyone and in almost every world faith. It is universal in scope. We have been encouraged to thank GOD for everything. It is hard to give thanks in difficult times and trials. Many have interpreted this to mean that GOD gave them a difficulty as a test. It is not what was meant when Paul said “in all circumstances give thanks”. However, there are dynamics that occur almost immediately when we start to give thanks. We examine the wonder of giving thanks and what it does to us on Sunday.
