We have all done something we regret and wondered why we didn’t catch it before the act. Some of these things haunt us for years, popping into our memories at the strangest of times. Jesus is revealing to his followers that all our actions and behaviors are connected to something in the heart. Jesus gets into the heart. He is constantly pushing his followers and others to examine the heart. The teachings on the Sermon on the Mount push us to consider deeply what is hidden in the heart or where our heart will lead us. Jesus helps us see the connections between the heart and the behavior that emerges and can become very destructive, or creative.
