Getting involved with God has always been a risky venture. God always asks, but even then agreeing to participate in what God is bringing about changes, alters, and transforms your life. How God acts and transforms things is always surprising and different from what we anticipate and this is especially true of the coming of Jesus. Mary, a young woman, agrees with what Gabriel, the angel, is proposing to her about being the mother of the Savior. We don’t know if she understands the risks of being rejected and shunned. Does she understand she will have the baby without the support of her friends and family? Does she grasp her eventual status as a refugee in Egypt? Yet, she takes the risk to participate in what the prophets have foretold about the coming of the Messiah. It will forever change her life.
