Throughout scripture, the references to mountain tops indicate something holy and powerful is occurring. Moses encountered the holy on the mountain top and later received the law in a second mountain top experience. Jesus is transfigured, his holy nature is revealed, on the mountain top. All of the mountain top experiences are followed by a return to the valleys below. The temptation is always to stay on the mountain top, but the work is in the valley below. The parallel experiences of Moses and the disciples have much to teach us about living our faith.
