In the book of John, Jesus meets with four different individuals helping them to understand some of the spiritual dynamics he was bringing and developing. The first is with Nicodemus, a Pharisee, who approaches Jesus at night. Jesus introduces a number of different ideas that will lead the ‘Christian’ faith in these conversations. Central to all of them is the work of the Holy Spirit. Nicodemus is trying to understand what Jesus is saying, but the ideas are so new, it takes him a lot of time to understand. In the end, he is one of two who try to defend Jesus in the Sanhedrin and asks for Jesus’ body to be buried. Nicodemus undergoes a number of changes as he begins to understand Jesus’ teachings, which challenged his beliefs and traditions. Are we willing to pursue truth even when it is uncomfortable?
