This weekend we celebrate Labor Day weekend. It is a little strange to celebrate Labor Day by trying to avoid as much work as possible. There are different perspectives on work and labor throughout the Bible. Creation is viewed as the ‘work of God’s hands.’ Man is cursed with the need to labor to eat. Later, toil and labor are considered a blessing and a curse. We have all had a job that we would consider a curse. And we have all had work that we enjoyed and looked forward to. Even later, we are invited to work alongside Christ to create the Kingdom of God on earth. Yes, part of our work is to work for Christ. We examine and reflect on the way we view work and how that view changes through our lifetime.
