Our reading from 2 Kings is about Naaman, a good man who had one major flaw–leprosy. When he is told of a way to a cure, he scoffs because the path seems too simple. He is reminded that, if the path had been difficult, he would have embraced it wholeheartedly. Let’s consider the fact that other than Native Americans, the U.S. Is a nation of immigrants from all over the world. Some immigrants came to pursue freedom from all kinds of oppression; some came in chains. Exodus 22:21 tells us, “Don’t mistreat or oppress an immigrant, because you were once immigrants in the land of Egypt.” Let us consider our country’s treatment of immigrants as we celebrate our nation’s birthday. -Rev Jan Parke
