Good-Samaritan-wordleOur passage from Deuteronomy tells us how to have a “prosperous” relationship with God. We are to obey the commandments of God. In Luke 10:27, Jesus tells us that the commandments we are specifically to follow are, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with your entire mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” Our reading from Luke tells the story of the Good Samaritan, who knew these commandments and followed them. Jesus also tells us to “Love our enemies, do good to those who hate you” (Luke 6:17). The Samaritans and the Jews were enemies. The Good Samaritan showed his love for his enemy.
