Jesus teaches his disciples that they can expect him to return. However, when, where and how have lead to speculation throughout the history of the Christian church. Throughout history, individuals have tried to glean out of scripture times and places to anticipate Jesus’ return and all have failed and their predications have proven false. Jesus was more interested in getting his disciples to carry on with the mission and ministry he had started. The teachings around the second coming are filled with these instructions, which we sometimes fail to consider. The teachings about the second coming are filled with instructions for his followers today, and help us to live the faith instead of just believe it. Living the faith is more powerful than believing it. Sunday, we try to understand how Jesus leads our faith with theses teachings in a contemporary world. They are still very powerful.
