Throughout the Bible there is a continuous play on being able to see and being blind. One plays on the idea that you can see but are blind, because God doesn’t want you seeing His wonders and work. It is largely an idea in the Old Testament where Israel had turned to pursue other gods and left compassion and things of God by the wayside. They were cursed, “be ever seeing, but never perceiving!” (Isa. 6:9) The idea of being able to see and perceive was an idea Jesus played with, especially when he was healing the blind. Vision and what we see and fail to see is largely a matter of how we have learned through the years. Have you ever missed something everyone else saw and wondered why? On Sunday we look at what we see and fail to see.
