The angel appears to both Mary and Joseph, drawing them into God’s will and plans. Their lives will be forever changed. As they begin to participate in the birth and life of Jesus, the demands on their lives take them all the way to Egypt as refugees and exiles. To keep the child safe, they had to flee the political violence Herod unleashed. Mystery continues to surround their lives. The angel appears again, telling them to return to Israel. God consumes their lives. Yet it is because they allowed God to move them that they are remembered.
